American Made – Movie – 2017

Tom Cruise decides to go NARCO. Based on the story of a kick-ass airplane pilot that goes “Breaking Bad” in the 80’s and eventually winds up working for the CIA, and Pablo Escobar. Like all movies Mr. Tom does, these great ideas belonged to other people in other countries and their movies, songs ( narco Corridos) and tv series about Latin American Druglords now got a spin. It’s like the movie Blow and the movie Snatched had a baby and they called it American Made.

Mother!

A couple’s relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence. From filmmaker Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream), mother! stars Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer in this riveting psychological thriller about love, devotion and sacrifice.’.

Lawrence said that the film is an allegory: “It depicts the rape and torment of Mother Earth … I represent Mother Earth; Javier, whose character is a poet, represents a form of God, a creator; Michelle Pfeiffer is an Eve to Ed Harris’s Adam, there’s Cain and Abel and the setting sometimes resembles the Garden of Eden.”

Aronofsky said that the title’s exclamation mark “reflects the spirit of the film” and corresponds to an “exclamation point” of the ending. The director discussed the film’s unusual capitalisation in a Reddit AMA, saying, “To find out why there’s a lowercase ‘m’, read the credits and look for the letter that isn’t capitalised. Ask yourself what’s another name for this character?” The characters’ names are all shown in lower-case, except for Him.

The lighter which appears throughout the film bears the Wendehorn, a symbol believed to represent “the cooperation between nature’s eternal laws, working in effect and in accordance with each other.” One of the film’s unexplained elements is the yellow powder Lawrence’s character drinks, which The Daily Beast suggests is a reference to Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s short story “The Yellow Wallpaper”.

All Saints Movie 2017

Michael Spurlock decides to trade in his corporate sales career to become a pastor. Unfortunately, his first assignment is to close a country church and sell the prime piece of land where it sits. He soon has a change of heart when the church starts to welcome refugees from Burma. Spurlock now finds himself working with the refugees to turn the land into a working farm to pay the church’s bills.

Plot Summary

After Michael Spurlock leaves the sales world under less than honest circumstances, he decides the most natural thing for him to do is become a pastor so he can have more time for his family and so he can give back to the world rather than take from it. Thus, he is assigned by the parish to head up a dying church in small town Tennessee as a training ground under the church closes up. Then Michael is promised to move on to better things. However, the longer he is at the small church, the more Michael sees that there is purpose for it, especially since it is serving hundreds of Burmese refugees who have no one to turn to. With God’s intervention, they begin to see miracles happen right before their eyes.

Production Quality (2 points)

In keeping with the traditions of Affirm Films, All Saints is a good production on the surface and has no obvious errors. Video quality, camera work, and audio quality are all on the professional standards they should be on. The soundtrack is effective and is culturally relevant. The sets, locations, and props are all well-constructed and realistic. However, this film needs some serious editing work. Time is spent on all the wrong things and the plot overall lacks flow and continuity. However, Affirm has likely done enough to meet minimum market standards.

Plot and Storyline Quality (.5 point)

Though this is a very intriguing true story that had a lot of potential, this potential is not reached. There are so many things that could have gone into this film that did not finish developing. The story is too dominated by the whining, unsure main character. Unfortunately, there is very little focus or purpose to this plot, even though there were plenty of opportunities to have this. There are a lot of disjointed and unrelated sequences that fill up the runtime and stunt character development by crowding out any scenes of meaningful dialogue, of which there are few. In the end, it’s sad to see how this story turned out because it had so much going for it.

Acting Quality (2 points)

John Corbett really puts a damper on this cast since he comes off as very fake and unsure of himself at the same time. Yet if you can look past him, the other cast members post some good performances. There is especially good multicultural casting and acting, even if we don’t get to see enough of them. Overall, this is a good section and makes this movie at least palatable.

Conclusion

Most people will probably be fine with this film, but it’s still a very disappointing experience. Why can’t we at least see some flashbacks of the Karen people in Burma? Their subplots are barely developed or explored as John Corbett dominates the runtime with his awkwardness. In short, though there was a chance for some interesting stories here, it barely materializes and wastes an amazing opportunity. We believe it’s time for Affirm Films to step out in faith and take a chance on a new genre of Christian film rather than churning out run-of-the-mill films like this one. – https://boxofficerevolution.wordpress.com/2017/08/25/all-saints-2017-movie-review/

A terrified and confused Nick is placed in a Riker’s Island holding cell, while Connie attempts to secure a bail bond using the stolen cash. He is told he needs $10,000 more to get Nick out of jail. After attempting to get his girlfriend to pay off the balance with her elderly mother’s credit cards and failing, Connie finds out through the bondsman the his brother has been placed in a hospital after an altercation with a fellow inmate.

Connie attempts to break his brother out of the hospital and hideout in a stranger’s house in Queens. All seems according to plan when he realizes the man he broke out of the hospital is not in fact his brother, but a beat-up and disfigured man named Ray who has just been released on parole.

Connie, Ray, and Crystal (the stranger’s 16 year old granddaughter) drive to an abandoned amusement park where Ray claims he left a bottle full of acid (LSD) worth several thousand dollars shortly before he ended up in the hospital. While searching for the bottle, the two are accosted by an overnight security guard who Connie beats unconscious. Ray pours a good deal of the acid down the guard’s throat so he will lose his memory.

The police arrive, Ray hides and Connie steals the security guard’s uniform and manages to successfully fool the police into believing real security guard was the intruder. The guard wakes up and begins to freak out due to the hallucinogens and is taken into custody. Connie destroys the hard drive containing the security footage of the park before leaving with Ray. Crystal is arrested in the process as well while waiting for Connie and Ray outside the park

Ray and Connie then manage to get into the security guard’s high-rise apartment in Brooklyn and wait there until morning. Ray calls one of his criminal friends to buy back the acid from them so they can get the rest of the money to bail out Nick. Ray’s friend shows up and a desperate Connie demands $15,000 for the drugs. Ray tells his friend he will handle it and attempts to flee with the drugs. Connie fights him in the hallway and steals the bottle. Ray runs to the apartment balcony only to watch Connie get chased down and arrested by the police, destroying the drugs in the process.

Connie is placed in the back of a squad car while Ray falls to his death off the balcony attempting to escape from capture.

Later, Nick is out of jail (Connie having taken the fall for the robbery) and back in therapy. The therapists have him join a group of other mentally handicapped patients in a team building exercise. A withdrawn Nick, slowly begins to engage with the group and play along as the credits roll

The Hitman’s Bodyguard

The world’s top protection agent is called upon to guard the life of his mortal enemy, one of the world’s most notorious hit men. The relentless bodyguard and manipulative assassin have been on the opposite end of the bullet for years and are thrown together for a wildly outrageous 24 hours. During their journey from England to the Hague, they encounter high-speed car chases, outlandish boat escapades and a merciless Eastern European dictator who is out for blood.

Bodyguard Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds) is hired to protect Kurosawa, a Japanese arms dealer. All apparently goes well, but Kurosawa is shot in the head at the last minute. Two years later, Bryce has fallen into disgrace and ekes out a living protecting drug-addicted corporate executives. Meanwhile, Vladislav Dukhovich, the ruthless and bloodthirsty dictator of Belarus, is put on trial for crimes against humanity at the International Court of Justice. The prosecution is unable to make headway against him, as they cannot substantiate their allegations with physical evidence and Dukhovich assassinates any witnesses who could do so. The prosecution’s last hope is notorious hitman Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson), who agrees to testify against Dukhovich in exchange for the exoneration of his wife Sonia, who is currently incarcerated.

Interpol Assistant Director Jean Foucher assigns Amelia Roussel, a greenhorn agent who is Bryce’s estranged ex-girlfriend, to lead a squad of Interpol agents tasked with escorting Kincaid to The Hague to testify. However, the convoy is ambushed and everyone except Kincaid and Roussel is killed. The two retreat to a safehouse, where they deduce someone in Interpol must have betrayed them to Dukhovich. Realizing that they need someone who is completely unaffiliated with Interpol and can remain trustworthy, Roussel contacts Bryce. Bryce is reluctant to help, as he has had multiple conflicts with Kincaid in the past and believes that Roussel was responsible for the death of Kurosawa two years ago, but ultimately agrees to aid them in exchange for the restoration of his good name. Roussel returns to Interpol to update them on the situation while Bryce and Kincaid escape an attack by Dukhovich’s men.

Foucher approaches Dukhovich, revealing himself to be the traitor, and demands his payment for selling out Kincaid; Dukhovich stabs him in the hand and informs him he will only be paid when Kincaid is dead. Dukhovich’s men track Kincaid’s location through his cellphone and ambush him and Bryce. While they are able to fight them off, their vehicle is destroyed. The two hitchhike to a ferry terminal and take a ferry to Amsterdam, where Sonia is being held. Kincaid escapes from Bryce to send flowers to Sonia, and Bryce tracks him down and kills several more hitmen. Kincaid reveals that he killed Kurosawa 2 years ago, having shot him in order to collect the bounty on his head. Enraged at the revelation that he has spent two years blaming Roussel for ‘betraying’ him when in reality the client’s death was a sheer fluke, Bryce abandons him.

As Bryce bemoans his failures, a group of hitmen attacks Kincaid. Bryce changes his mind and helps Kincaid escape, but is captured. Dukhovich’s men torture him in an attempt to find Kincaid, who tracks Bryce down and rescues him. The two battle their way to The Hague, arriving just in time for Kincaid to testify. He successfully proves that Dukhovich ordered the slaughter of a village; Dukhovich tried to hire Kincaid to assassinate a political rival, but in the process Kincaid witnessed the execution of a village, uploading photos of the massacre to a secret web site that he provides the court with access to. Dukhovich resorts to his backup plan; to bomb the court, allowing him to steal a gun and attempt to kill Kincaid. Bryce jumps in the way of the bullet and orders Kincaid to stop Dukhovich from escaping. Roussel notices Foucher acting suspiciously during the attack, and deduces he was the traitor. She subdues him with Bryce’s aid, and the two rekindle their relationship. Kincaid pursues Dukhovich to the roof of the building, where he attempts to escape by helicopter. Kincaid destroys the helicopter and corners Dukhovich. Dukhovich attempts to break Kincaid by claiming he will never be able to redeem himself for his sins, but Kincaid laughs it off, stating that he doesn’t care but that Dukhovich should not have shot Kincaid’s bodyguard, and then Kincaid kicks Dukhovich off the roof to his death. In the aftermath, Sonia is released, and Kincaid breaks out of jail to celebrate their anniversary, living happily ever after.

Annabelle: Creation

This is a crazy but by the book scary movie. This is what happens when the Exorcist and Chucky movies had a baby. Former toy maker Sam Mullins and his wife Esther are happy to welcome a nun and six orphaned girls into their California farmhouse. Years earlier, the couple lost their 7-year-old daughter Annabelle in a tragic car accident. Terror soon strikes when one of the girls finds a seemingly innocent doll that seems to have a life of its own.

How Scary is the Movie Monster Calls?

How scary is the movie Monster Calls, A (2016) starring Lewis MacDougall, Liam Neeson, Felicity Jones, Sigourney Weaver and Toby Kebbell?

I’ve lost family members to cancer, so I can relate to the plight of young Conor O’Malley as his mother slowly succumbs to the disease. As a coping mechanism, Conor summons a gigantic, tree-like creature to teach him the acceptance of loss.

I read Patrick Ness’ original novel shortly after its release, and as he also wrote the screenplay for the film, it’s about as close an adaptation as you could get, which works in its favor and, to a lesser extent, to its detriment.

My biggest question after watching A Monster Calls is:  Whom is it for? Whilst it would be easy to write it off as a children’s film, as many have done, this has none of the charm or the cheer that you’d find in, say, Pete’s Dragon or The BFG. And I don’t mean that in a derogatory way; I just think that either this isn’t aimed at kids or it was intended to teach them the harsh realities of life in a way that most other films of its ilk would go to great lengths to avoid because as we all know, in real life there are no happy endings. Monster or no monster, at the end of the day, this is a film about someone dying of cancer.

This seems like such an obvious thing to say for a film of this kind, but as Conor, Lewis MacDougall gave an amazing performance and certainly deserves all the awards he’s already been nominated for. And while there were some gaping gaps in logic regarding his character, such as him getting let off the hook for actions that should land him in a youth detention facility, and his school bullies, who seem like plot conveniences more than anything else, I still found Conor to be one of the most genuinely human protagonists that I’ve encountered in a long while.

But let’s face it; there’s one reason and one reason only why most people will watch A Monster Calls: the monster. Yup, the giant talking tree is certainly a spectacular sight to behold, even if, as many have pointed out, he resembles an overgrown version of Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy. But no joke, the titular creature here was one huge wooden pile of awesome. And as for Liam Neeson’s vocal performance? Well, 2hen you think of a giant talking tree monster, do you envision it as having any voice other than Liam Neeson’s?

And don’t worry; the monster is in this film a lot. Rest assured they didn’t just slap him in to get the shots for the trailer. He really is the star of the show, and I couldn’t get enough of him. This may be a film about death, but it also delivers a message of hope that we so very rarely encounter in real life. Most of us who have lost people to cancer wish we, too, could have a monster come and tell us stories. Highly recommended.

Is Ben Affleck Directing the New Batman Movie?

Ben Affleck Puts Batman Directing Doubts to Rest!

It seemed like a sure thing that Ben Affleck was scheduled to write, direct and star in a new solo Batman movie, but a recent interview with The Guardian in which he stated: “It’s not a set thing and there’s no script” have put the status of the project into question. Further rumors of filming being pushed back from a spring date to sometime in the summer have Bat-fans worried their winged crusader will not take flight, but a new TV interview with Jimmy Kimmel Live! has set the record straight.

“I’m gonna direct the next Batman, we’re working on it,” Affleck confirmed. “It’s one of those things that’s really frustrating because with ‘Live By Night’ it took me a year-and-a-half to write it and get it ready and I worked really hard. It’s just no one gave a s**t. No one was like, ‘WHERE’S ‘LIVE BY NIGHT?’ But with Batman I keep getting the, “WHERE’S THE F**KING BATMAN?” I’m like, “Whoa, I’m working! Give me a second!”

While it’s possible that the script work Affleck is doing with DC Comics CCO Geoff Johns is still being fine-tuned, that is without question a good thing. One of the primary aspects that have hurt DC Films in the past has been the rushed slate to meet release dates, with Suicide Squad in particular only given a scant six weeks for script development. As of now, Warner Bros. has Aquaman and The Flash set for release in 2018, although with no director attached don’t be surprised if the latter film falls off the schedule. While it may behoove Warner Bros. shareholders to rush a Batman solo movie in to fill that Flash gap, it would be unwise, as another critical disappointment — particularly with an Oscar-winning director like Affleck behind it — could spell the beginning of the end for DC’s cinematic universe. Expect The Batman to maintain its projected 2019 release date.

Joe Manganiello will face off against Ben Affleck’s Batman in the film as Deathstroke, after first making his debut in the upcoming Justice League , with additional appearances by Jeremy Irons as Alfred and J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon expected to happen as well. DC Entertainment President and CCO Geoff Johns will serve as co-writer (with Affleck) and producer.

Affleck will return to the big screen as Batman first in Justice League , opening in theaters on November 17.

Where to Watch “Split” Official Movie Trailer?

Watch here the official trailer for Shyamalan’s new movie starring James McAvoy, Split.

Split is an original thriller from writer/director M. Night Shyamalan in which James McAvoy plays Kevin, a man with 24 distinct personalities. In anticipation for the January 20th release, Universal Pictures is inviting ComingSoon.net and Shock Till You Drop readers the chance to see the film early at a special advance screening at one of the 24 city screenings taking place on Friday, January 13th!

Writer/director/producer M. Night Shyamalan returns to the captivating grip of The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs with Split, an original thriller that delves into the mysterious recesses of one man’s fractured, gifted mind. Following last year’s breakout hit The Visit, Shyamalan reunites with producer Jason Blum (The Purge and Insidious series, The Gift ) for the film.

While the mental divisions of those with dissociative identity disorder have long fascinated and eluded science, it is believed that some can also manifest unique physical attributes for each personality, a cognitive and physiological prism within a single being.

Though Kevin (James McAvoy) has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher (Betty Buckley), there remains one still submerged who is set to materialize and dominate all the others. Compelled to abducting three teenage girls led by the willful, observant Casey (Anya Taylor-Joy, The Witch ), Kevin reaches a war for survival among all of those contained within him—as well as everyone around him—as the walls between his compartments shatter apart.

What is War for the Planet of the Apes about?

Caesar’s clan is at war with the human military faction known as Alpha-Omega. Caesar’s clan hides in Muir Woods, and Caesar offers the humans peace if the apes are left alone. This conflict has become further complicated as various apes, including the gorilla Red (a former follower of Koba), have joined Alpha-Omega after being disillusioned with Caesar’s leadership, in fear of retaliation from Caesar due to their betrayal. Learning that Alpha-Omega follows the leadership of a mysterious Colonel, Caesar makes plans to relocate the clan across the desert, not wanting to suffer any more ape casualties after Koba’s wrath on San Francisco. The night before their journey, Alpha-Omega launches an assault on the ape home and Caesar’s wife Cornelia and eldest son Blue Eyes are slaughtered by the Colonel, leaving only Caesar’s youngest son Cornelius alive.

Leaving Cornelius in the care of Lake, the mate of his deceased son, Caesar departs to confront the Colonel, accompanied only by Maurice, Luca and Rocket, while the other apes head for the desert. Confronting traitorous albino ape Winter, they learn that the Colonel has departed for a location called the “border”. During their journey, they are forced to kill a human living alone in an abandoned village, but when they discover his young daughter, apparently unable to speak, Maurice insists that they take her with them. Further along, they discover that some Alpha-Omega soldiers that have been shot and abandoned. Their examination of a survivor reveals that he, like the girl, cannot speak. In an abandoned souvenir shop, the group meets Bad Ape, an ape hermit who lived in the Sierra Zoo before he was exposed to the Simian Flu virus. Bad Ape is able to direct them to the border, a former weapons depot that was turned into a containment facility when the virus began to spread.

When the group arrives at the border facility, Luca is killed by an Alpha-Omega patrol, prompting Caesar to enter the facility alone. However, he is captured shortly after learning that the rest of his ape family have been caught by the Colonel. Witnessing his fellow apes being forced to build a wall, Caesar confronts the Colonel, who reveals that the Simian Flu virus has evolved further and is now causing some surviving humans to become mute and regress back to a primitive mentality. The Colonel is barricading himself into the facility to fend off rival military forces coming to execute him, as he favors killing any infected humans – including his own son – while others believe that a cure is still possible.

While Caesar is tortured with starvation, the mute girl, whom Maurice names Nova, sneaks into the facility to give him food and water, although Rocket is forced to allow himself to be captured to create a distraction so that Nova can escape. Together, Caesar and Rocket are able to work out a means of accessing the ape cage via an underground tunnel that leads out of the facility, with Bad Ape and Maurice digging their way into the cage. After rescuing the children, Caesar sends his followers away while he confronts the Colonel, but the facility is subsequently attacked by the external military forces. When Caesar reaches the Colonel, he realizes that the Colonel has succumbed to the infection and is regressing to a primitive state. Caesar ultimately spares the Colonel, who takes his own life rather than become a primitive. In a massive battle among Caesar’s apes, Alpha-Omega and the rival militants, Red redeems and sacrifices himself by saving Caesar’s life, helping to destroy the facility’s fuel supplies. As the apes fall in numbers, an oncoming avalanche arrives, and wipes out the remaining Alpha-Omega soldiers, as well as the opposing militant forces, while the apes and Nova retreat to the safety of the trees.

Departing the facility, the remaining apes cross the desert and find a park that is rich in natural resources. Caesar reveals to Maurice that he was mortally wounded during the escape, and that he is going to die. Before Caesar dies, Maurice assures Caesar that Cornelius will know what his father did and what he stood for.

“Voldemort-Origins of The Heir” Trailer 2017

Voldemort Origins of The Heir is a movie created by fans with no interest in profits. The idea of this movie came from the sixth book ” Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” in this book the story of Tom Riddle who turned into Voldemort is revealed although there are some points not so clear. Fans asked how did Tom Riddle turn into Voldemort? Why did Tom Riddle turn into Voldemort? What happened in the years that he was not in Hogwarts? What happened in Hogwarts when he came back? The books by Rowling give little clues about Tom Riddle but not much of it is taken from the movies. The story wants to tell the rise of the Dark Lord before Harry Potter and his first death.

War Machine 2017 Trailer HD on Netflix

Here we can find the latest trailer of the movie War Machine a sad story played in Afghanistan, based on NATO forces in the region.

In a film for our times, writer-director David Michôd (Animal Kingdom) recreates a U.S. General’s roller-coaster rise and fall as part reality, part savage parody – raising the specter of just where the line between them lies today. His is an anti-establishment, pro-soldier exploration in the form of an absurdist war story of a born leader’s ultra-confident march right into the dark heart of folly. At the story’s core is Brad Pitt’s sly take on a successful, charismatic four-star general who leapt in like a rock star to command NATO forces in Afghanistan, only to be taken down by his own hubris and a journalist’s no-holds-barred expose. War Machine addresses the debt we owe to soldiers to question the purposes to which they are being directed.

The Netflix original film is inspired by the book The Operators: The Wild & Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan by the late journalist Michael Hastings. Joining Pitt in War Machine is a highly decorated cast including Emory Cohen, RJ Cyler, Topher Grace, Anthony Michael Hall, Anthony Hayes, John Magaro, Scoot McNairy, Will Poulter, Alan Ruck, Lakeith Stanfield, Josh Stewart, Meg Tilly, Tilda Swinton and Sir Ben Kingsley. Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Ted Sarandos and Ian Bryce serve as producers. James W. Skotchdopole, Pauline Fischer, Sarah Bowen and Sarah Esberg serve as executive producers. The film will be released on Netflix on May 26, 2017.

Watch some of the deleted scenes of the new volume of Guardians Of The Galaxy 2017. There’s a bit of concept art, clips of some of the deleted scenes, details on Adam Warlock and a bunch of other stuff.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is a 2017 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superhero team Guardians of the Galaxy, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is the sequel to 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy and the fifteenth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film is written and directed by James Gunn and stars an ensemble cast featuring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, Sean Gunn, Sylvester Stallone, and Kurt Russell. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the Guardians travel throughout the cosmos as they help Peter Quill learn more about his true parentage.

The film was officially announced at the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con International before the theatrical release of the first film, along with Gunn’s return from the first film, with the title of the sequel revealed a year later in June 2015. The film began principal photography in February 2016 at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Fayette County, Georgia, with many crew changes from the first film due to other commitments. Filming concluded in June 2016. Gunn chose to set the sequel shortly after the first film to explore the characters’ new roles as the Guardians, and to follow the storyline of Quill’s father established throughout the first film—Russell was confirmed in that role in July 2016, portraying Ego, a departure from Quill’s comic father.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 premiered in Tokyo on April 10, 2017 and was released in the United States on May 5, 2017, in 3D and IMAX 3D. It has grossed $509 million worldwide, making it the fifth highest-grossing film of 2017. The film was praised by critics for its humor, soundtrack and cast, but was deemed not as “fresh” as the original. A sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, is being developed with James Gunn returning to write and direct.- Source: Wikipedia.org

Heavyweight fighter Chuck Wepner talks about his new movie, Sylvester Stallone, and Muhammad Ali

Heavyweight fighter Chuck Wepner talks about his new movie, Sylvester Stallone, and Muhammad Ali. Heavyweight boxer Chuck Wepner, from Bayonne, N.J., talks about his new movie, “Chuck,” about being known as The Real Rocky, his history with Sylvester Stallone and with Muhammad Ali, and his inspiring life story.

Charles “Chuck” Wepner (born February 26, 1939) is an American former professional boxer who fought at heavyweight. As a world ranked contender he fell just seconds short of full fifteen rounds with world heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali in a 1975 title fight. Wepner also scored notable wins over Randy Neumann and Ernie Terrell.

Wepner turned professional in 1964 and became a popular fighter on the Northeast’s Club Boxing circuit, fighting throughout the county, including arenas close to his boyhood homes such as North Bergen and Secaucus. Nicknamed “The Bayonne Bleeder,” he began posting many wins and some losses. He had formerly boxed while a member of the United States Marine Corps and had worked as a bouncer before turning pro. He was the New Jersey State Heavyweight Boxing Champion, but after losing fights to George Foreman (by knockout in three) and Sonny Liston (by knockout in ten) many boxing fans thought that his days as a contender were numbered. After the fight with Liston, Wepner needed 72 stitches in his face.

However, after losing to Joe Bugner by a knockout in three in England, Wepner won nine of his next eleven fights, including victories over Charlie Polite and former WBA Heavyweight champion Ernie Terrell.

In 1975, it was announced Wepner would challenge Muhammad Ali for the world’s Heavyweight title. According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer (February 9, 1975, Page 4-C), Carl Lombardo put up $1.3 million for the Wepner-Ali heavyweight title bout. According to a Time magazine article, “In Stitches”, Ali was guaranteed $1.5 million and Wepner signed for $100,000. This was considerably more than Wepner had ever earned and he, therefore, did not need any coaxing. Wepner spent eight weeks near the Catskill Mountains under the guidance of Al Braverman (trainer and noted cutman) and Bill Prezant (manager). Prezant prophesied that the fight would be a big surprise. This bout was the first time Wepner had been able to train full-time. The fight was held on March 24 at the Richfield Coliseum in Richfield, Ohio south of Cleveland. Before the fight, a reporter asked Wepner if he thought he could survive in the ring with the champion, to which Wepner allegedly answered, “I’ve been a survivor my whole life…if I survived the Marines, I can survive Ali. “In the ninth round, Wepner scored a knockdown, which Ali claimed had occurred because Wepner was stepping on his foot. Wepner went to his corner and said to his manager, “Al, start the car. We’re going to the bank. We are millionaires.” To which Wepner’s manager replied, “You better turn around. He’s getting up and he looks pissed off.” In the remaining rounds, Ali decisively outboxed Wepner and opened up cuts above both Wepner’s eyes and broke his nose. Wepner was far behind on the scorecards when Ali knocked him down with 19 seconds left in the 15th round. The referee counted to seven before calling a technical knockout. In 1976, Wepner fought professional wrestler André the Giant and lost by count-out after Andre threw him out of the ring. Wepner’s last fight was on May 2, 1978 for the New Jersey State Heavyweight Championship against a new rising prospect, Scott Frank, noted for a useful heavy left hook. Wepner lost the fight in a 12-round decision, but again proved durable, Ring magazine noted. He announced his retirement after the fight. In 1988 Wepner was convicted of dealing cocaine and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
