Father Figures

“Fraternal twin brothers, Kyle and Peter Reynolds (Owen Wilson and Ed Helms) have learned that their father did not die when they were young as they had previously believed, and their eccentric mother, Helen Baxter (Glenn Close) had slept with many rich, famous and powerful men in the 1970’s. When they go on a road trip to find out who their real father is, they find out more about their mother than they probably ever wanted to know, as well as encountering a mysterious hitchhiker and other misadventures.”

Loving Vincent – An animated movie that turns the silver screen into a “van-Gogh”

We are only beginning to see the creative and artistic potential technology enables, in the same way Vincent Van Gogh used his paintbrush, that crude piece of technology that consisted in horse hairs and wood,  to create immortal masterpieces in culture, CGI and other technologies ( Like VR, 3D printing and computer modeling) will enable us to move to new and unimagined (yet) frontiers.

It is in this spirit that I share the preview of a movie some of my more artistic friends can’t wait to buy; Loving Vincent.

” Loving Vincent is a 2017 biographical animated drama film about the life of painter Vincent van Gogh, and in particular, the circumstances of his death. It is the first fully painted animated feature film. It is written and directed by Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman. The development was funded by the Polish Film Institute, and partially through a Kickstarter campaign.

Each of the film’s 65,000 frames is an oil painting on canvas, using the same technique as Van Gogh, created by a team of 115 painters. The film premiered at the 2017 Annecy International Animated Film Festival. It was awarded Best Animated Feature Film Award at the 30th European Film Awards in Berlin.”  -https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loving_Vincent

Wonder – Probably the best film of 2017

From the way the trailers and critics react, this is probably the next big one, the next paradigm changing film, a new step in this self-morphing art we call cinema.

Based on the New York Times bestseller, WONDER tells the incredibly inspiring and heartwarming story of August Pullman, a boy with facial differences who enters fifth grade, attending a mainstream elementary school for the first time. -IMDB

Wonder doesn’t shy away from its bestselling source material’s sentiment, but this well-acted and overall winsome drama earns its tugs at the heartstrings. -Rotten Tomatoes

Jigsaw Movie 2017

A criminal named Edgar Munsen manages to evade police and is pursued onto a rooftop, where he activates a triggering mechanism. He is shot and severely injured by police detective Halloran and his fellow officers.

Elsewhere, five people are held captive inside of a room in a run-down barn, each with a metal noose around their neck leading them to a wall of buzzsaws. A taped recording from John Kramer explains that to escape, they must give a sacrifice of blood and will eventually need to confess their past sins. The chain nooses begin to pull them towards the saw blades. Four manage to survive by offering blood via purposely cutting themselves on the saws, though one man who was still unconscious during the message and only woke up moments before the ending of the game appears to die. The next test reveals that one of the group-members, Carly, inadvertently caused the death of an asthmatic woman by stealing her purse, which had her emergency inhaler inside. A trio of syringes are revealed; one contains an antidote for a poison in her system, another a saline solution, and the third a potent acid. She must inject one into herself in order to save the rest from being hanged. Eventually, volatile group-member Ryan stabs all three into her to save himself, partially melting Carly’s face and killing her.

During the games, Halloran and his partner, Detective Hunt, begin to investigate the matter, especially with the discovery of bodies that appear to belong to the unnamed man and Carly, who were both killed in the barn. Halloran becomes suspicious of forensic pathologists Logan and Eleanor. Though in turn Logan, a military veteran and former doctor whose wife was killed two years prior, is suspicious of Halloran’s motives. Munsen is kidnapped from the hospital by an unseen assailant. When the police captain orders John Kramer’s grave be exhumed, Munsen’s body is found inside.

In another room, Ryan tries to cheat by escaping through a door marked “No Exit”, and his leg is trapped by razor-sharp wires, immobilizing him. Fellow group members Anna and Mitch discover an unlocked door leading into a grain silo, but are quickly trapped inside. A taped message explains that Anna and Mitch will be buried in grain and then killed by falling debris unless Ryan pulls a lever that will free him from the wires around his leg. Ryan eventually agrees, but upon pulling the lever, his leg is instantly severed, though Anna and Mitch survive. Mitch is tested next. A taped message reveals that he sold a motorcycle with a faulty brake to a young man revealed to be John Kramer’s innocent nephew, which resulted in his death in an automobile accident. Mitch will be lowered into a spiral-shaped blade, unless he can reach for a brake lever. However, he is unable to complete the task and is subsequently killed, with his body being shredded.

Logan and Eleanor speak in a bar about their distrust of Halloran, before Eleanor takes Logan to her “studio”, revealing that she is an obsessive fangirl of the “Jigsaw Killer” case, and has built replicas of many of his previous traps, which she worries could incriminate her. Detective Hunt has followed them and informs Halloran of the studio. Halloran orders the two be arrested, though Logan is able to convince Hunt, an old friend, that Halloran is actually to blame, given his past dealings with Edgar Munsen. Logan and Eleanor depart for the barn after Eleanor is able to deduce the location of the game. Halloran manages to pursue them.

Anna tries to cheat and slips through a doorway to freedom, only to be captured. She awakens with a gravely wounded Ryan, each chained up in a room with a hooded figure. The hooded figure removes his robe to reveal John Kramer. John reveals that Anna, an old neighbor of his, suffocated her infant child in a fit of rage, and threw the blame on her husband by planting the body next to him while he slept. Her husband later committed suicide in a fit of grief, thinking he accidentally smothered his own baby. John explains that the two have not yet earned their survival, and have gotten his message “backwards.” He places a loaded gun between them, telling them it is the “key” to their survival. Anna misinterprets John’s message and attempts to shoot Ryan, only for the gun, which is revealed to be rigged, to backfire and kill her. Ryan begins to cry upon realizing that keys to their chains were hidden inside of the gun, and destroyed when Anna pulled the trigger.

While Logan and Eleanor investigate the barn, they are ambushed by Halloran. Eleanor escapes, and while pursuing her Halloran is drugged and knocked-out by an unseen assailant. Logan and Halloran both awaken inside of collars rigged with laser cutters. The two are told that they must confess all of their sins or else they will die, and they will have the choice of who will face their test first. Halloran forces Logan to go first. Logan confesses that he made a mistake and mislabeled John Kramundiagnosed which caused his cancer to go un-diagnosed until it was too late. Despite confessing, Logan appears to die. Halloran confesses at the last second, admitting that he has allowed criminals and murderers to walk free for personal gain.

Suddenly, Logan’s body stands up, stating that he faked his death in order to get Halloran to confess, and revealing that the barn game takes place ten years in the past. He was the unnamed man who appeared to die in the first game of the barn trap, but because he was unconscious when the first message was delivered, John Kramer saved him, feeling Logan should not die out of error. John subsequently took Logan on as his apprentice. The bodies that were found were actually the bodies of criminals that Halloran allowed to walk free, and they were placed into the same tests that Logan was meant to face ten years prior. Logan also reveals that Munsen, one of the criminals Halloran let go, was responsible for murdering his wife. However, because Halloran refused to confess all of his sins, and because he selfishly broke the rules and forced Logan to go first, he will die, and be framed as the new Jigsaw killer. Logan tells Halloran that he “speaks for the dead”, and reactivates the laser-collar around his neck. Logan slams the door as Halloran’s head is sliced apart, killing him.

Victoria and Abdul

Victoria & Abdul is a 2017 biographical comedy-drama film directed by Stephen Frears and written by Lee Hall. The film is based on the book of same name by Shrabani Basu, about the real-life relationship between Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom and her Indian Muslim servant Abdul Karim. The Foreigner

The turgid revenge thriller “The Foreigner” is an all-around lousy movie. For starters: Jackie Chan, an action star who is struggling to find age-appropriate roles in his sixties, is barely in “The Foreigner,” an adaptation of Stephen Leather’s source novel. This is especially disappointing since Chan’s Sparkle Roll Media production company is prominently foregrounded in the film’s opening credits, and he’s featured prominently in the film’s marketing. Then again, maybe Chan’s absence is for the best given how unconvincing his performance is as grieving 61-year-old ex-military man Quan.  Source: https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/the-foreigner-2017

Happy Death Day

Death Day is what happens when groundhog day has a threesome with Scary Movie and a random NY Romantic comedy.

“In an attempt to elevate a familiar structure, eager new comedy horror Happy Death Day takes the classic slasher formula and adds a nifty twist. Theresa, known as Tree (Jessica Rothe), is waking up in a bad place: a dorm room, to be exact. She’s not quite sure how she got there, but a hangover and someone called Carter (Israel Broussard) are all the clues she needs. Even worse, it’s her birthday, an occasion she loathes, and the ensuing 24 hours provide her with social embarrassment, romantic entanglements, sorority sister drama and, well, her death. But then Tree wakes up, stuck in the same day, unable to break the cycle until she finds out who wants her dead.”

American Made – Movie – 2017

Tom Cruise decides to go NARCO. Based on the story of a kick-ass airplane pilot that goes “Breaking Bad” in the 80’s and eventually winds up working for the CIA, and Pablo Escobar. Like all movies Mr. Tom does, these great ideas belonged to other people in other countries and their movies, songs ( narco Corridos) and tv series about Latin American Druglords now got a spin. It’s like the movie Blow and the movie Snatched had a baby and they called it American Made.

Mother!

A couple’s relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence. From filmmaker Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream), mother! stars Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer in this riveting psychological thriller about love, devotion and sacrifice.’.

Lawrence said that the film is an allegory: “It depicts the rape and torment of Mother Earth … I represent Mother Earth; Javier, whose character is a poet, represents a form of God, a creator; Michelle Pfeiffer is an Eve to Ed Harris’s Adam, there’s Cain and Abel and the setting sometimes resembles the Garden of Eden.”

Aronofsky said that the title’s exclamation mark “reflects the spirit of the film” and corresponds to an “exclamation point” of the ending. The director discussed the film’s unusual capitalisation in a Reddit AMA, saying, “To find out why there’s a lowercase ‘m’, read the credits and look for the letter that isn’t capitalised. Ask yourself what’s another name for this character?” The characters’ names are all shown in lower-case, except for Him.

The lighter which appears throughout the film bears the Wendehorn, a symbol believed to represent “the cooperation between nature’s eternal laws, working in effect and in accordance with each other.” One of the film’s unexplained elements is the yellow powder Lawrence’s character drinks, which The Daily Beast suggests is a reference to Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s short story “The Yellow Wallpaper”.

Home Again

“Over the past few years, Reese Witherspoon has taken on an eclectic batch of projects like the animated musical comedy Sing, Paul Thomas Anderson’s adaptation of Inherent Vice, an Oscar-nominated turn in Wild, and an impressive recent turn in the intriguing HBO series Big Little Lies. But now she’s going back to the well with a new romantic comedy, but this one comes from the offspring of two filmmakers best known for their work in the genre.”

“Home Again stars Reese Witherspoon as a 40-year old woman named Alice, recently separated from her husband, who decides to start her life anew by moving back to her hometown in Los Angeles. Choosing to live a little more spontaneously, she allows three young filmmakers to crash at her place for a bit, which creates all sorts of new surprising relationships.”

All Saints Movie 2017

Michael Spurlock decides to trade in his corporate sales career to become a pastor. Unfortunately, his first assignment is to close a country church and sell the prime piece of land where it sits. He soon has a change of heart when the church starts to welcome refugees from Burma. Spurlock now finds himself working with the refugees to turn the land into a working farm to pay the church’s bills.

Plot Summary

After Michael Spurlock leaves the sales world under less than honest circumstances, he decides the most natural thing for him to do is become a pastor so he can have more time for his family and so he can give back to the world rather than take from it. Thus, he is assigned by the parish to head up a dying church in small town Tennessee as a training ground under the church closes up. Then Michael is promised to move on to better things. However, the longer he is at the small church, the more Michael sees that there is purpose for it, especially since it is serving hundreds of Burmese refugees who have no one to turn to. With God’s intervention, they begin to see miracles happen right before their eyes.

Production Quality (2 points)

In keeping with the traditions of Affirm Films, All Saints is a good production on the surface and has no obvious errors. Video quality, camera work, and audio quality are all on the professional standards they should be on. The soundtrack is effective and is culturally relevant. The sets, locations, and props are all well-constructed and realistic. However, this film needs some serious editing work. Time is spent on all the wrong things and the plot overall lacks flow and continuity. However, Affirm has likely done enough to meet minimum market standards.

Plot and Storyline Quality (.5 point)

Though this is a very intriguing true story that had a lot of potential, this potential is not reached. There are so many things that could have gone into this film that did not finish developing. The story is too dominated by the whining, unsure main character. Unfortunately, there is very little focus or purpose to this plot, even though there were plenty of opportunities to have this. There are a lot of disjointed and unrelated sequences that fill up the runtime and stunt character development by crowding out any scenes of meaningful dialogue, of which there are few. In the end, it’s sad to see how this story turned out because it had so much going for it.

Acting Quality (2 points)

John Corbett really puts a damper on this cast since he comes off as very fake and unsure of himself at the same time. Yet if you can look past him, the other cast members post some good performances. There is especially good multicultural casting and acting, even if we don’t get to see enough of them. Overall, this is a good section and makes this movie at least palatable.

Conclusion

Most people will probably be fine with this film, but it’s still a very disappointing experience. Why can’t we at least see some flashbacks of the Karen people in Burma? Their subplots are barely developed or explored as John Corbett dominates the runtime with his awkwardness. In short, though there was a chance for some interesting stories here, it barely materializes and wastes an amazing opportunity. We believe it’s time for Affirm Films to step out in faith and take a chance on a new genre of Christian film rather than churning out run-of-the-mill films like this one. – https://boxofficerevolution.wordpress.com/2017/08/25/all-saints-2017-movie-review/

A terrified and confused Nick is placed in a Riker’s Island holding cell, while Connie attempts to secure a bail bond using the stolen cash. He is told he needs $10,000 more to get Nick out of jail. After attempting to get his girlfriend to pay off the balance with her elderly mother’s credit cards and failing, Connie finds out through the bondsman the his brother has been placed in a hospital after an altercation with a fellow inmate.

Connie attempts to break his brother out of the hospital and hideout in a stranger’s house in Queens. All seems according to plan when he realizes the man he broke out of the hospital is not in fact his brother, but a beat-up and disfigured man named Ray who has just been released on parole.

Connie, Ray, and Crystal (the stranger’s 16 year old granddaughter) drive to an abandoned amusement park where Ray claims he left a bottle full of acid (LSD) worth several thousand dollars shortly before he ended up in the hospital. While searching for the bottle, the two are accosted by an overnight security guard who Connie beats unconscious. Ray pours a good deal of the acid down the guard’s throat so he will lose his memory.

The police arrive, Ray hides and Connie steals the security guard’s uniform and manages to successfully fool the police into believing real security guard was the intruder. The guard wakes up and begins to freak out due to the hallucinogens and is taken into custody. Connie destroys the hard drive containing the security footage of the park before leaving with Ray. Crystal is arrested in the process as well while waiting for Connie and Ray outside the park

Ray and Connie then manage to get into the security guard’s high-rise apartment in Brooklyn and wait there until morning. Ray calls one of his criminal friends to buy back the acid from them so they can get the rest of the money to bail out Nick. Ray’s friend shows up and a desperate Connie demands $15,000 for the drugs. Ray tells his friend he will handle it and attempts to flee with the drugs. Connie fights him in the hallway and steals the bottle. Ray runs to the apartment balcony only to watch Connie get chased down and arrested by the police, destroying the drugs in the process.

Connie is placed in the back of a squad car while Ray falls to his death off the balcony attempting to escape from capture.

Later, Nick is out of jail (Connie having taken the fall for the robbery) and back in therapy. The therapists have him join a group of other mentally handicapped patients in a team building exercise. A withdrawn Nick, slowly begins to engage with the group and play along as the credits roll

The Hitman’s Bodyguard

The world’s top protection agent is called upon to guard the life of his mortal enemy, one of the world’s most notorious hit men. The relentless bodyguard and manipulative assassin have been on the opposite end of the bullet for years and are thrown together for a wildly outrageous 24 hours. During their journey from England to the Hague, they encounter high-speed car chases, outlandish boat escapades and a merciless Eastern European dictator who is out for blood.

Bodyguard Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds) is hired to protect Kurosawa, a Japanese arms dealer. All apparently goes well, but Kurosawa is shot in the head at the last minute. Two years later, Bryce has fallen into disgrace and ekes out a living protecting drug-addicted corporate executives. Meanwhile, Vladislav Dukhovich, the ruthless and bloodthirsty dictator of Belarus, is put on trial for crimes against humanity at the International Court of Justice. The prosecution is unable to make headway against him, as they cannot substantiate their allegations with physical evidence and Dukhovich assassinates any witnesses who could do so. The prosecution’s last hope is notorious hitman Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson), who agrees to testify against Dukhovich in exchange for the exoneration of his wife Sonia, who is currently incarcerated.

Interpol Assistant Director Jean Foucher assigns Amelia Roussel, a greenhorn agent who is Bryce’s estranged ex-girlfriend, to lead a squad of Interpol agents tasked with escorting Kincaid to The Hague to testify. However, the convoy is ambushed and everyone except Kincaid and Roussel is killed. The two retreat to a safehouse, where they deduce someone in Interpol must have betrayed them to Dukhovich. Realizing that they need someone who is completely unaffiliated with Interpol and can remain trustworthy, Roussel contacts Bryce. Bryce is reluctant to help, as he has had multiple conflicts with Kincaid in the past and believes that Roussel was responsible for the death of Kurosawa two years ago, but ultimately agrees to aid them in exchange for the restoration of his good name. Roussel returns to Interpol to update them on the situation while Bryce and Kincaid escape an attack by Dukhovich’s men.

Foucher approaches Dukhovich, revealing himself to be the traitor, and demands his payment for selling out Kincaid; Dukhovich stabs him in the hand and informs him he will only be paid when Kincaid is dead. Dukhovich’s men track Kincaid’s location through his cellphone and ambush him and Bryce. While they are able to fight them off, their vehicle is destroyed. The two hitchhike to a ferry terminal and take a ferry to Amsterdam, where Sonia is being held. Kincaid escapes from Bryce to send flowers to Sonia, and Bryce tracks him down and kills several more hitmen. Kincaid reveals that he killed Kurosawa 2 years ago, having shot him in order to collect the bounty on his head. Enraged at the revelation that he has spent two years blaming Roussel for ‘betraying’ him when in reality the client’s death was a sheer fluke, Bryce abandons him.

As Bryce bemoans his failures, a group of hitmen attacks Kincaid. Bryce changes his mind and helps Kincaid escape, but is captured. Dukhovich’s men torture him in an attempt to find Kincaid, who tracks Bryce down and rescues him. The two battle their way to The Hague, arriving just in time for Kincaid to testify. He successfully proves that Dukhovich ordered the slaughter of a village; Dukhovich tried to hire Kincaid to assassinate a political rival, but in the process Kincaid witnessed the execution of a village, uploading photos of the massacre to a secret web site that he provides the court with access to. Dukhovich resorts to his backup plan; to bomb the court, allowing him to steal a gun and attempt to kill Kincaid. Bryce jumps in the way of the bullet and orders Kincaid to stop Dukhovich from escaping. Roussel notices Foucher acting suspiciously during the attack, and deduces he was the traitor. She subdues him with Bryce’s aid, and the two rekindle their relationship. Kincaid pursues Dukhovich to the roof of the building, where he attempts to escape by helicopter. Kincaid destroys the helicopter and corners Dukhovich. Dukhovich attempts to break Kincaid by claiming he will never be able to redeem himself for his sins, but Kincaid laughs it off, stating that he doesn’t care but that Dukhovich should not have shot Kincaid’s bodyguard, and then Kincaid kicks Dukhovich off the roof to his death. In the aftermath, Sonia is released, and Kincaid breaks out of jail to celebrate their anniversary, living happily ever after.

What are the Underworld movies about?

Here we explain what are the Underworld Franchise movies about, this terribly cruel critic is as funny as it is hurtful but awfully accurate.

Underworld, the little-loved but bizarrely successful franchise, explained:

“Wait, you may ask, there are five of these movies? Yes, the Underworld franchise, too, appears to be immortal, or at least more difficult to kill than you might expect. Although the series is liked in some quarters, it tends to receive low marks from critics, and it’s unusual to find anyone who is passionate about its characters and lore outside of a small circle of devotees. That this low-budget, low-concept franchise has lasted so long (the first film was released in 2003) without the sort of rabid fandom that tends to power other long-lived series is perhaps its greatest triumph. It is the rarest of creatures in Hollywood: a profitable franchise that no one really loves.”

Where to Watch “Split” Official Movie Trailer?

Watch here the official trailer for Shyamalan’s new movie starring James McAvoy, Split.

Split is an original thriller from writer/director M. Night Shyamalan in which James McAvoy plays Kevin, a man with 24 distinct personalities. In anticipation for the January 20th release, Universal Pictures is inviting ComingSoon.net and Shock Till You Drop readers the chance to see the film early at a special advance screening at one of the 24 city screenings taking place on Friday, January 13th!

Writer/director/producer M. Night Shyamalan returns to the captivating grip of The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs with Split, an original thriller that delves into the mysterious recesses of one man’s fractured, gifted mind. Following last year’s breakout hit The Visit, Shyamalan reunites with producer Jason Blum (The Purge and Insidious series, The Gift ) for the film.

While the mental divisions of those with dissociative identity disorder have long fascinated and eluded science, it is believed that some can also manifest unique physical attributes for each personality, a cognitive and physiological prism within a single being.

Though Kevin (James McAvoy) has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher (Betty Buckley), there remains one still submerged who is set to materialize and dominate all the others. Compelled to abducting three teenage girls led by the willful, observant Casey (Anya Taylor-Joy, The Witch ), Kevin reaches a war for survival among all of those contained within him—as well as everyone around him—as the walls between his compartments shatter apart.

What is War for the Planet of the Apes about?

Caesar’s clan is at war with the human military faction known as Alpha-Omega. Caesar’s clan hides in Muir Woods, and Caesar offers the humans peace if the apes are left alone. This conflict has become further complicated as various apes, including the gorilla Red (a former follower of Koba), have joined Alpha-Omega after being disillusioned with Caesar’s leadership, in fear of retaliation from Caesar due to their betrayal. Learning that Alpha-Omega follows the leadership of a mysterious Colonel, Caesar makes plans to relocate the clan across the desert, not wanting to suffer any more ape casualties after Koba’s wrath on San Francisco. The night before their journey, Alpha-Omega launches an assault on the ape home and Caesar’s wife Cornelia and eldest son Blue Eyes are slaughtered by the Colonel, leaving only Caesar’s youngest son Cornelius alive.

Leaving Cornelius in the care of Lake, the mate of his deceased son, Caesar departs to confront the Colonel, accompanied only by Maurice, Luca and Rocket, while the other apes head for the desert. Confronting traitorous albino ape Winter, they learn that the Colonel has departed for a location called the “border”. During their journey, they are forced to kill a human living alone in an abandoned village, but when they discover his young daughter, apparently unable to speak, Maurice insists that they take her with them. Further along, they discover that some Alpha-Omega soldiers that have been shot and abandoned. Their examination of a survivor reveals that he, like the girl, cannot speak. In an abandoned souvenir shop, the group meets Bad Ape, an ape hermit who lived in the Sierra Zoo before he was exposed to the Simian Flu virus. Bad Ape is able to direct them to the border, a former weapons depot that was turned into a containment facility when the virus began to spread.

When the group arrives at the border facility, Luca is killed by an Alpha-Omega patrol, prompting Caesar to enter the facility alone. However, he is captured shortly after learning that the rest of his ape family have been caught by the Colonel. Witnessing his fellow apes being forced to build a wall, Caesar confronts the Colonel, who reveals that the Simian Flu virus has evolved further and is now causing some surviving humans to become mute and regress back to a primitive mentality. The Colonel is barricading himself into the facility to fend off rival military forces coming to execute him, as he favors killing any infected humans – including his own son – while others believe that a cure is still possible.

While Caesar is tortured with starvation, the mute girl, whom Maurice names Nova, sneaks into the facility to give him food and water, although Rocket is forced to allow himself to be captured to create a distraction so that Nova can escape. Together, Caesar and Rocket are able to work out a means of accessing the ape cage via an underground tunnel that leads out of the facility, with Bad Ape and Maurice digging their way into the cage. After rescuing the children, Caesar sends his followers away while he confronts the Colonel, but the facility is subsequently attacked by the external military forces. When Caesar reaches the Colonel, he realizes that the Colonel has succumbed to the infection and is regressing to a primitive state. Caesar ultimately spares the Colonel, who takes his own life rather than become a primitive. In a massive battle among Caesar’s apes, Alpha-Omega and the rival militants, Red redeems and sacrifices himself by saving Caesar’s life, helping to destroy the facility’s fuel supplies. As the apes fall in numbers, an oncoming avalanche arrives, and wipes out the remaining Alpha-Omega soldiers, as well as the opposing militant forces, while the apes and Nova retreat to the safety of the trees.

Departing the facility, the remaining apes cross the desert and find a park that is rich in natural resources. Caesar reveals to Maurice that he was mortally wounded during the escape, and that he is going to die. Before Caesar dies, Maurice assures Caesar that Cornelius will know what his father did and what he stood for.
